Salim bin Hayan reported that Saeed narrated to us from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Fasting is a shield. When one of you is fasting on a given day, let him not speak obscenely or behave foolishly. If someone insults him," or he said, "if a person insults him, let him say, 'I am fasting.'"Bahz said in his version, "If a person insults him or fights him, let him say, 'I am fasting.'" Affan likewise said, "or fights him."

عن النبي ﷺ وبهز قال حدثني سليم بن حيان قال حدثنا سعيد عن أبي هريرة عن النبي ﷺ قال الصوم جنة وإذا كان أحدكم يوما صائما فلا يرفث ولا يجهل فإن أحد شتمه أو فإن امرؤ شتمه فليقل إني صائم قال بهز فإن امرؤ شتمه أو قاتله فليقل إني صائم وكذا قال عفان أو قاتله
