Marwan used to pass through Madinah, and he passed by Abu Hurairah while he was narrating hadith. Marwan said, "Some of your narrations, Abu Hurairah!" Then he went on his way.Later he came back and said, "Abu Hurairah, how did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray over the deceased?"Abu Hurairah replied, "He said, 'You created her,'" or he said, "'You created her,'" Shuba being the one who was uncertain, "'and You guided her to Islam, and You have taken her soul. You know her secret and her open affairs. We have come as intercessors, so forgive her.'"
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن الجلاس قال سمعت
كان مروان يمر على المدينة قال فيمر بأبي هريرة وهو يحدث فقال بعض حديثك يا أبا هريرة قال ثم مضى قال ثم رجع فقال يا أبا هريرة كيف سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يصلي على الجنازة قال قال خلقتها أو قال أنت خلقتها شعبة الذي شك وهديتها إلى الإسلام وأنت قبضت روحها تعلم سرها وعلانيتها جئنا شفعاء فاغفر لها
