The Prophet ﷺ forbade the sale of war spoils until they have been distributed. Yazid bin Khumayr later added, "and until it is known what they consist of." Yazid said this the final time he related the hadith. He also forbade the sale of fruit until it is safe from any blight, and that a man should not pray except while wearing a belt.
Its chain of transmission is daif, as it contains a narrator who is not named, but it has corroborating narrations that support it. Abu Dawud (3369) narrated it with this wording, and via the route of Shuba from him with the same content, in the Book of Sales, chapter on selling fruits before their ripeness becomes apparent. It has been reported with many corroborating narrations, and much similar material has already preceded. It was also narrated with similar wording by Tirmidhi (4/132, no. 1563) in the Book of Military Expeditions, chapter on the disapproval of selling spoils of war before they are distributed, and by Nasai (7/301, no. 4645) similarly to Tirmidhi, and by Ibn Abu Shayba (12/436, no. 15170), and by Hakim (2/40) from Ibn Abbas, who graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It has also passed before with this same chain at (8994).As for his statement, "it is secured from every hazard," it means it is freed and delivered from mishaps and defects. In manuscript B it reads, "it is delivered from every defect."
