Abu Hurairah reported that when Khaybar was conquered, a sheep containing poison was presented as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gather for me every Jew who is here."They were gathered before him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "I am going to ask you about something. Will you tell me the truth about it?"They answered, "Yes, Abu Qasim."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "Who is your father?"They said, "Our father is so-and-so."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have lied. Your father is so-and-so."They said, "You are right, and you have spoken well."He said to them, "Will you tell me the truth about something I ask you?"They said, "Yes, Abu Qasim. And if we lie to you, you will know our lie just as you knew it about our father."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who are the people of the Fire?"They said, "We will be in it for a short while, then you will succeed us in it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "We will never succeed you in it."Then he said to them, "Will you tell me the truth about something I ask you?"They said, "Yes, Abu Qasim."He asked, "Did you put poison in this sheep?"They said, "Yes."He asked, "What made you do that?"They said, "We wanted to be rid of you if you were a liar, and if you were a prophet it would not harm you."
