The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a man gets up from his seat and then returns to it, he has the greater right to it."
حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن سهيل عن أبيه
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا قام الرجل من مجلسه ثم رجع فهو أحق به
Its isnad is sahih. Suhayl is Ibn Abu Salih, and Abu Salih is Zakwan, and both are trustworthy. The hadith is found in Muslim 4/171.5, no. 2179, in the chapter on greetings, on rising from one's gathering and then returning, and in Abu Dawud 4/264, no. 4853, in the chapter on manners with similar wording, and in Darimi 2/282, no. 2654, and in Ibn Hibban, 481, no. 1957, in al-Mawarid.
