The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Many a person who fasts gets nothing from his fast except hunger, and many a person who stands in prayer at night gets nothing from his standing except sleeplessness."

قال رسول الله ﷺ كم من صائم ليس له من صيامه إلا الجوع وكم من قائم ليس له من قيامه إلا السهر

He placed one of them at its head and the other at its feet. It was said, "O Prophet of Allah, will that benefit him?" He said, "Were it not that Quraysh would taunt me, I would have gladdened your eye with it." He said, so Allah revealed, "Indeed, you cannot guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills, and He is most knowing of those who are guided" [Qasas 28:56].Hasan (96482)Its chain of transmission is hasan, it has already appeared in 9576.
