Abdullah bin Umar reported,

If a man has only one garment, let him wrap it around his waist as a lower garment and then pray, for I heard Umar bin Khattab say this, and he also said, "Do not drape a single garment over yourselves the way the Jews do."Nafi said, "If I were to tell you that he traced this back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I would hope not to have lied."

حدثنا يعقوب حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحاق كما حدثني عنه نافع مولاه قال

كان عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنه يقول

إذا لم يكن للرجل إلا ثوب واحد فليأتزر به ثم ليصل فإني سمعت عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه يقول ذلك ويقول لا تلتحفوا بالثوب إذا كان وحده كما تفعل اليهود قال نافع ولو قلت لكم إنه أسند ذلك إلى رسول الله ﷺ لرجوت أن لا أكون كذبت
