The Prophet ﷺ said, "We have not made peace with them since we went to war with them. Whoever leaves any of them out of fear is not one of us," meaning snakes.
حدثنا يحيى عن ابن عجلان قال سمعت أبي
عن النبي ﷺ قال ما سالمناهن منذ حاربناهن من ترك شيئا خشية فليس منا يعني الحيات
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It was narrated by Abu Dawud in the Book of Manners, in the chapter on killing snakes, and by Humaydi, number 489, number 1156, and Ibn Hibban, 265, number 1079, and Tabari in his tafsir, 7/191.
