The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The farther one is from the mosque, the greater the reward."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن ابن أبي ذئب قال حدثني عبد الرحمن بن مهران عن عبد الرحمن بن سعد
قال رسول الله ﷺ الأبعد فالأبعد من المسجد أعظم أجرا
Its isnad is hasan. Abdul-Rahman bin Saad Madani, the freed slave of Aswad bin Sufyan, is trustworthy, and Abdul-Rahman bin Mihran Madani, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, was mentioned by Ibn Hibban in his Thiqat. Daraqutni said, "He may be relied upon for corroboration," while Ibn Hajar said, "He is unknown." Thiqat 5/93, Suaalat Zarqani no. 290.This hadith was narrated through this route by Abu Dawud 1/152, no. 556, in the Book of Prayer, chapter on what has been said about the merit of walking to prayer, and likewise by Ibn Majah 1/257, no. 782, in the Book of masjids, chapter on the one who lives farthest away. Bukhari included it in his Tarikh 5/352, no. 1116, in the biographical entry on Abdul-Rahman bin Mihran, and remained silent about it. Ibn Abu Shayba also recorded it, 2/207, in the Book of Prayers, chapter on being close to the masjid.
