The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you prays in a single garment, let him cross its two ends over his shoulders."
حدثنا إسماعيل حدثنا هشام الدستوائي قال حدثنا يحيى بن أبي كثير عن عكرمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا صلى أحدكم في ثوب واحد فليخالف ما بين طرفيه على عاتقيه
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari narrated it, 1/141, no. 352, in the Book of Prayer, chapter on praying in a single garment, and Muslim, 1/368, no. 516, chapter on praying in a single garment, with a similar wording, and Abu Dawud, 1/169, no. 627, in the Book of Prayer, chapter on the various garments one may pray in, with the same wording, and Abdul-Razzaq, 1/353, no. 1374, and Ibn Khuzayma, 1/376, no. 765.
