The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of fasting through the night without breaking the fast."They said, "But you yourself fast continuously, Messenger of Allah."He replied, "I am not like you in this. I pass the night while my Lord feeds me and gives me drink. So take on only what you have the strength for."
وقال إياكم والوصال قالوا فإنك تواصل يا رسول الله قال إني لست في ذا مثلكم إني أبيت يطعمني ربي ويسقيني فاكلفوا ما لكم به طاقة
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari related it in 3/49, in the Book of Fasting, chapter on rebuking whoever excessively practices wisal, and Muslim related it in the Book of Fasting, 22/774, number 1103, in the chapter on the prohibition of wisal.
