The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed Fatimah, or Umm Salama, to let her hem trail by a cubit.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال أخبرنا أبو المهزم
أن رسول الله ﷺ أمر فاطمة أو أم سلمة أن تجر ذيلها ذراعا
Its isnad is daif, Abu Muhazzim is discarded (matruk), and it is said his name was Yazid bin Sufyan. Busiri likewise declared the hadith daif for this reason in his Zawaid. But the hadith is sahih, being narrated by Ibn Majah, 2/1185, no. 3582, through sahih routes as well as through the route of Abu Muhazzim.It is sahih through the route of Abu Dawud, 4/65, no. 4119, in the chapter on clothing, on the length of the hem, and Tirmidhi, 4/223, no. 1731, in the chapter on clothing, on what has been said about women trailing their hems, where he said it is hasan sahih, and Nasai, 8/209, in the chapter on adornment, on women's hems.
