The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them." Abu Hurairah said, "I do not know whether he mentioned this twice or three times." "Then there will come after them a people who love plumpness and who give testimony before being asked to testify."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن أبي بشر عن عبد الله بن شقيق
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال خيركم قرني ثم الذين يلونهم قال أبو هريرة لا أدري ذكر مرتين أو ثلاثا ثم خلف من بعدهم قوم يحبون السمانة يشهدون ولا يستشهدون
Its isnad is sahih, it was mentioned previously at 4173. The hadith was narrated by Bukhari 3/224 in "Testimonies," chapter "One should not testify to an unjust testimony," and by Muslim 4/1964 no. 2535 in "The Merits of the Companions," chapter "The merit of the companions, then those who follow them," and by Nasai 7/17 no. 3809 in "Oaths and Vows," chapter "Fulfilling the vow," all of them from Imran bin Husayn.
