Abu Hurairah reported,

I heard Abu al-Qasim ﷺ when some dates from the charity were brought to him. He gave instructions concerning them, then he lifted Hasan, or Husayn, onto his shoulder, and the child's saliva began dripping onto him. He looked at him and saw that he was chewing on a date. He moved his cheek and said, "Spit it out, my son. Do you not know that the family of Muhammad does not eat from charity?"

حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال أخبرنا محمد بن زياد قال سمعت

أبا هريرة يقول

سمعت أبا القاسم ﷺ أتي بتمر من تمر الصدقة فأمر فيه بأمره فحمل الحسن أو الحسين على عاتقه فجعل لعابه يسيل عليه فنظر إليه فإذا هو يلوك تمرة فحرك خده وقال ألقها يا بني أما شعرت أن آل محمد لا يأكلون الصدقة
