Whenever food was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from someone other than his family, he would ask about it. If he was told it was a gift, he would eat from it, but if he was told it was charity, he would say to those with him, "Eat," and would not eat from it himself.
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا حماد عن محمد بن زياد قال سمعت
إن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا أتي بطعام من غير أهله سأل عنه فإن قيل هدية أكل وإن قيل صدقة قال كلوا ولم يأكل
