Whoever attaches himself to a people as their client without the permission of his own patrons, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will not accept from him on the Day of Resurrection any compensation or ransom.Madinah is sacred. Whoever introduces a wrongful innovation in it or shelters one who does so, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will not accept from him on the Day of Resurrection any compensation or ransom. The protection granted by the Muslims is one, even the lowest of them may extend it. Whoever betrays the protection given to a Muslim, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will not accept from him on the Day of Resurrection any compensation or ransom.
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari related it 2/26 in "Umrah," chapter "The sanctity of Madinah," and Muslim 2/1146, 1508 in "Hajj," chapter "The excellence of Madinah," and Abu Dawud in "Hajj," chapter "The prohibition of Madinah," 4/330, no. 5114.The meaning of his saying, "whoever attaches himself to a people without the permission of his patrons" is that "wala" here refers to the wala of a slave, meaning that a slave belongs to a people who then free him, so his wala belongs to them. If he then attaches himself to others instead, the curse becomes due upon him.As for his saying, "whoever shelters one who commits hadath," the hadath here means killing and shedding blood. As for sin in general, Allah Most High says, "No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another" [???]. This means that if a person gives shelter to a sinner, he does not thereby acquire sin himself. Rather, what is meant is one who shelters a killer. As for his saying, "whoever betrays a Muslim," it has two meanings. The first is that whoever seeks protection from a Muslim and is then forsaken by him, the curse of Allah falls upon him. The second is that whoever gives a pledge to a believer and then breaks it, the curse of Allah falls upon him.
