The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The truly poor person is not the one turned away with a bite or two of food, or a date or two. Rather, the truly poor is the one who does not ask for anything and whose situation goes unnoticed, so no one gives to him."
حدثنا أبو نعيم قال حدثنا الأعمش عن أبي صالح
قال رسول الله ﷺ ليس المسكين الذي ترده الأكلة والأكلتان أو التمرة والتمرتان ولكن المسكين الذي لا يسأل شيئا ولا يفطن بمكانه فيعطى
Its isnad is sahih, it occurred previously at 3636. Bukhari related it, 2/153, in zakat, on the saying of Allah, "They do not ask people insistently" [Baqarah 2:273], as did Muslim, 2/719, no. 1039, Abu Dawud, 2/118, no. 1631, and Nasai, 5/85, no. 2572.
