The Prophet ﷺ said from the pulpit, "The most poetic verse the Arabs have ever spoken is, 'Indeed, everything other than Allah is vain.' And Umaya bin Ubayy al-Salt nearly embraced Islam."
حدثنا أسود حدثنا شريك عن ابن عمير يعني عبد الملك عن أبي سلمة
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال على المنبر أشعر بيت قالته العرب ألا كل شيء ما خلا الله باطل وكاد أمية بن أبي الصلت أن يسلم
Its isnad is sahih. It was mentioned previously in 7377, and Bukhari related it in 43/8, in the Book of Virtues, chapter on the Days of Ignorance, and Muslim in 4/1768, number 2256, in the Book of Poetry, at its beginning, and Ibn Majah in 1236/2, number 3757, in the Book of Manners, chapter on poetry.
