Abu Hurairah reported,

When the verse "A multitude from the earlier generations and a few from the later" [Waqiah 56:13–14] was revealed, it weighed heavily upon the Muslims. Then the verse "A multitude from the earlier generations and a multitude from the later" [Waqiah 56:39–40] was revealed, and he said, "You are a third of the people of Paradise. Rather, you are half of the people of Paradise, and you will share the remaining half with them."

عن أبي هريرة قال

لما نزلت {ثلة من الأولين وقليل من الآخرين} شق ذلك على المسلمين فنزلت {ثلة من الأولين وثلة من الآخرين} فقال أنتم ثلث أهل الجنة بل أنتم نصف أهل الجنة وتقاسمونهم النصف الباقي
