The Prophet ﷺ said, "A thief does not steal while he is a believer when he steals, an adulterer does not commit adultery while he is a believer when he commits it, one does not drink wine while he is a believer when he drinks it, one does not embezzle from the spoils while he is a believer when he embezzles, and one does not seize plunder while he is a believer when he seizes it."Ata added in his narration, "And he does not seize a valuable plunder while he is a believer."Bahz said, "It was asked about this," and the answer was, "Faith is stripped from him, but if he repents, Allah accepts his repentance."Affan said in his narration, Qatada said, "And in the narration of Ata, 'a valuable plunder while he is a believer.'"

أن النبي ﷺ قال لا يسرق حين يسرق وهو مؤمن ولا يزني حين يزني وهو مؤمن ولا يشرب الخمر حين يشربها وهو مؤمن ولا يغل حين يغل وهو مؤمن ولا ينتهب حين ينتهب وهو مؤمن وقال عطاء ولا ينتهب نهبة ذات شرف وهو مؤمن قال بهز فقيل له قال إنه ينتزع منه الإيمان فإن تاب تاب الله عليه وقال عفان في حديثه قال قتادة وفي حديث عطاء نهبة ذات شرف وهو مؤمن
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari reported it in 3/178, in the chapter on injustices, on plundering without the owner's permission, and Muslim in 1/76, number 100, in the chapter on faith, on the diminishing of faith through sins, and Abu Dawud in 4/221, number 4689, in the chapter on the sunnah, on the evidence for the increase of faith, and Tirmidhi in 5/15, number 2625, in the chapter on faith, on what has been said about the fornicator not being a believer while fornicating, and Ibn Majah in 2/1298, number 3936, in the chapter on tribulations, on the prohibition of plundering, and Nasai in 8/64.
