The Prophet ﷺ said, "While a man was riding a cow, it turned toward him and said, 'I was not created for this. I was only created for plowing.'"He said, "I believe in this, and so do Abu Bakr and Umar."He continued, "And a wolf seized a sheep, and the shepherd pursued it. The wolf said, 'Who will protect her on the day of the wild beasts, a day when she will have no shepherd but me?'"He said, "I believe in this, and so do Abu Bakr and Umar."Abu Salama remarked that the two of them were not present among the people that day.
Its isnad is sahih. It is found in Bukhari 3/163, in the chapter on sharecropping, using oxen for plowing, close to this wording, and in Muslim 4/1857, no. 2388, in the chapter on the merits of the companions, the merits of Abu Bakr.
