Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

When this verse was revealed, "And warn your closest kin" [Shuara 26:214], the Prophet ﷺ gathered the people of his household. Thirty of them assembled, and they ate and drank.Then he said to them, "Who will guarantee on my behalf my debts and my promises, and be with me in Paradise, and be my successor among my family?"A man whom Sharik did not name said, "Messenger of Allah, you have been an ocean. Who can take on such a thing?"Then he offered it to another, and then he presented it to the people of his household.Ali said, "I will."

لما نزلت هذه الآية {وأنذر عشيرتك الأقربين} قال جمع النبي ﷺ من أهل بيته فاجتمع ثلاثون فأكلوا وشربوا قال فقال لهم من يضمن عني ديني ومواعيدي ويكون معي في الجنة ويكون خليفتي في أهلي فقال رجل لم يسمه شريك يا رسول الله أنت كنت بحرا من يقوم بهذا قال ثم قال الآخر قال فعرض ذلك على أهل بيته فقال علي رضي الله عنه أنا
