Abu Hurairah reported,

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to Thawban, "How will you be, Thawban, when the nations rally against you the way diners rally around a bowl of food, each taking his share?"Thawban said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, Messenger of Allah, will it be because of how few we are?"He replied, "No, on that day you will be many, but weakness will be cast into your hearts."They asked, "What is this weakness, Messenger of Allah?"He answered, "Your love of this world and your hatred of fighting."

حدثنا أبو جعفر المدائني أخبرنا عبد الصمد بن حبيب الأزدي عن أبيه حبيب بن عبد الله عن شبيل بن عوف

عن أبي هريرة قال

سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لثوبان كيف أنت يا ثوبان إذ تداعت عليكم الأمم كتداعيكم على قصعة الطعام يصيبون منه قال ثوبان بأبي وأمي يا رسول الله أمن قلة بنا قال لا أنتم يومئذ كثير ولكن يلقى في قلوبكم الوهن قالوا وما الوهن يا رسول الله قال حبكم الدنيا وكراهيتكم القتال
