The Prophet ﷺ said, "There are three signs of a hypocrite. When he speaks, he lies. When he makes a promise, he breaks it. When he is entrusted with something, he betrays the trust."
حدثنا سليمان حدثنا إسماعيل أخبرني أبو سهيل نافع بن مالك بن أبي عامر عن أبيه
أن النبي ﷺ قال آية المنافق ثلاث إذا حدث كذب وإذا وعد أخلف وإذا اؤتمن خان
Its isnad is sahih, Bukhari and Muslim narrated it, and Muslim added in one narration, "even if he fasts, prays, and claims to be a Muslim." Abu Yaala also narrated it from the hadith of Anas, and its wording is, he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Three things, whoever has them is a hypocrite, even if he fasts, prays, performs hajj, performs umrah, and says, I am a Muslim.'"
