Our food during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was nothing but the two black things, dates and water. By Allah, we never saw this wheat of yours, nor did we know what it was. And our clothing during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was nothing but striped garments, meaning the cloaks of the Bedouins.
حدثنا حسن حدثنا شيبان عن قتادة عن الحسن
إنما كان طعامنا مع رسول الله ﷺ الأسودان التمر والماء والله ما كنا نرى سمراءكم هذه ولا ندري ما هي وإنما كان لباسنا مع رسول الله ﷺ النمار يعني برد الأعراب
