The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to carefully examine the eye and the ear, and not to sacrifice an animal that is one-eyed, nor one with the front of its ear cut off, nor one with the back of its ear cut off, nor one with its ear slit, nor one with its ear pierced.Zuhayr said, I asked Abu Ishaq, "Did he mention an animal with a broken horn?"He replied, "No."I asked, "What is the muqabalah?"He answered, "An animal whose ear has been cut from the front."I asked, "What is the mudabarah?"He answered, "An animal whose ear has been cut from the back."I asked, "What is the sharqa?"He answered, "An animal whose ear has been slit."I asked, "What is the kharqa?"He answered, "An animal whose ear has been pierced as a mark of identification."
