As for Amr bin Fuhayd bin Mutarrif Ghifari, Ibn Hajar said in Tahdhib 8:91, "The correct version is the narration of Abdullah bin Salih, from Layth, from Yazid bin Had, from Amr the freedman of Muttalib, from Fuhayd bin Mutarrif, from Abu Hurairah. This is how Ibn Wahb narrated it, from Yahya bin Abdullah bin Salim, from Yazid, from Amr."He also said, in 8:385, "However, some scholars distinguished between Mutarrif and Amr bin Fuhayd. Azdi said that this Fuhayd was the sole narrator from Muttalib. Ibn Saad mentioned him in the generation of those who were present at the Battle of the Trench, while Abu Naeem and others mentioned him among the Companions. Daraqutni said there was disagreement about his status as a companion. Ibn Hibban said, in his book on the Companions, 'It is said that he was a companion.'"This hadith was narrated with the same meaning by Fuhayd bin Mutarrif Ghifari, and it will come later in the Musnad, through the route of Abdul-Aziz bin Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab Makhzumi, from his brother Hakam, from his father Muttalib, from Fuhayd bin Mutarrif Ghifari. This isnad is also sahih.Taken together, this makes it more likely that Yunus and Qutayba did not err in their narration from Layth, and they were corroborated in this by Abu Salama Khuzai the hafiz, as will come at number 8709. It also indicates that Amr bin Fuhayd, who is thought to be the son of Fuhayd bin Mutarrif the companion, narrated the hadith from Abu Hurairah, even though his father narrated it from the Prophet ﷺ, and that the son of Muttalib bin Abdullah narrated it from his father, from Fuhayd the companion.This is supported by the fact that Abdul-Aziz bin Muttalib narrated from Abdullah bin Hasan, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, as a marfu report, "Whoever is sought for his property and is killed is a martyr," which has already been mentioned under number 8281, and its isnad is very sahih.
