Sabi bin Mabad was a Christian Bedouin from the tribe of Taghlib who embraced Islam. He asked which deed was the most excellent, and he was told, "Striving in the path of Allah ."He resolved to go on military expedition, but was asked, "Have you performed the Hajj?"He replied, "No."So it was said to him, "Perform Hajj and Umrah first, then go on expedition."He set out, and when he reached al-Hawabit, he entered the state of consecration for both Hajj and Umrah together. Zayd bin Sawhan and Salman bin Rabia saw him and said, "He is more lost than his camel," or, "He is no better guided than his she-camel."He then went to Umar
and told him what they had said, and Umar replied, "You have been guided to the practice of your Prophet ﷺ."Hakam said, I asked Abu Waail, "Did Sabi himself relate this to you?"He answered, "Yes."
Its isnad is sahih. Subayy: with damma on the sad, fatha on the ba, and shadda on the ya, in the diminutive form. He was a trustworthy successor, who saw Umar and most of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The hadith was also narrated with the same meaning by Abu Dawud, Nasai, and Ibn Majah.Hawabit is a place in Hijaz, mentioned by Hamdani in Sifat Jazirat al-Arab, page 218, line 16, in the poem of Ajlani in which he mentioned the names of the stations, watering places, valleys, and villages of Hijaz. I did not find it in Mujam al-Buldan. In manuscript H it appears as Hawatit, and this is apparently an error.See Nayl al-Awtar 5:46, and Awn al-Mabud 2:92-93, and what will follow at 169.
