The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let not the son of Adam say, 'Woe to time!' For I am Time. I send the night and the day, and when I will, I seize them both."
وقال رسول الله ﷺ لا يقول ابن آدم يا خيبة الدهر إني أنا الدهر أرسل الليل والنهار فإذا شئت قبضتهما
A sahih hadith, narrated by Muslim, volume 7, page 45, through the route of Mamar, from Zuhri, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah.The scholars said, This is figurative speech. Its reason is that the Arabs had a custom that whenever a calamity befell them, they would curse time, saying, "Woe to time," and similar expressions. So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not curse time," meaning, do not curse the one who brings about calamities, for if you curse the one who brings them about, the curse falls upon Allah Most High, since He is the one who brings them about and sends them down. As for time itself, that is, the passage of time, it has no action of its own, but is rather a created thing among the creations of Allah Most High.The meaning of "Allah is time" is that He is the one who brings about events and calamities and the creator of all beings.
