Abu Qasim said, "Whoever intends harm against the people of this town," meaning the people of Madinah, "Allah will dissolve him as salt dissolves in water."
Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Yuhanis is trustworthy (thiqah). Muslim recorded this hadith through him, as will be mentioned, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat.Yuhanis is how the name appears in (ع) and (م). What appears in the biographical dictionaries and the rest of the references is Yahnas, without the waw, and that is what appears in (ع). It is vocalized in Taqrib with the ya bearing damma, the ha bearing fatha, and a doubled nun bearing kasra. However, another narrator among the Tabiin already appeared earlier named Yahnas, the freedman of Zubayr, whose name was vocalized with a doubled nun bearing fatha, at no. 5935, and it is vocalized the same way in Taqrib as well. So it seems that both vocalizations are permissible for this foreign name, and it seems that the addition of the waw here comes from the narrators' handling of the foreign name.Muslim narrated this hadith (1:390) by way of Hajjaj bin Muhammad, and by way of Abdul-Razzaq, both of them from Ibn Jurayj, with this isnad. It has already occurred through another route from Qirat, who is Abu Abdullah Dinar, no. 7741, and we noted this there. Bukhari mentioned it in Kabir (1/1/237-238) with many chains of transmission, including the narration of Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Yahnas, which is the one given here. Hafiz Mizzi narrated it in Tahzib Kamal, p. 706 (photocopied manuscript), with his own isnad, by way of Abdul-Razzaq, with the same wording.
