The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not fear poverty for you, but I fear that you will compete in accumulating wealth. And I do not fear unintentional wrongdoing from you, but I fear deliberate wrongdoing."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It appears in Jami al-Masanid wal-Sunan 7:407, at this same location, and Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid 3:121 and 10:236, saying in both places, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih." Munziri also mentioned it in Targheeb wa Tarheeb 4:105-106, saying, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are accepted as reliable in the Sahih," as did Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, and Hakim, who said, "Sahih according to the criteria of Muslim." It appears in Mustadrak 2:534, and Dhahabi agreed with him in judging it sahih.Suyuti also mentioned it in Jami Saghir, attributing it to Hakim and to Bayhaqi in Shuab. See Fath Kabir 3/78. He also mentioned it in Durr Manthur 6:387, attributing it to Hakim alone.
