A man from the People of the Suffah died and left behind two Dinars or two dirhams. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Two brands of fire. Pray over your companion yourselves."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان حدثنا عتيبة عن بريد بن أصرم قال سمعت
مات رجل من أهل الصفة وترك دينارين أو درهمين فقال رسول الله ﷺ كيتان صلوا على صاحبكم
Its isnad is daif. Jafar bin Sulayman Dubai, with damma on the dad and fatha on the ba, al-Basri, is trustworthy.Utaybah Darir is of unknown status. Bukhari gave him a biography in Kabir 4/1/96 without mentioning any criticism of him, but he did weaken the isnad, as will be mentioned below.Yazid bin Asram was mentioned by Ibn Hibban in Thiqat, but Ibn Hibban was inconsistent about him, mentioning him again under the name Yazid, as Hafiz relates in Tahdhib, which shows that he was never fully confident of his status. Bukhari gave him a biography in Kabir 1/2/140 and narrated this hadith in abridged form from Affan with this isnad, then said, Abu Abdullah said, "The isnad is of unknown status."The hadith appears in Zawaid 10:240, where it was faulted on account of Utaybah's unknown status.Utaybah is in the diminutive form, though in some places in Tahdhib and Mizan it occurs in the non-diminutive form, which is an error.Yazid, with damma on the (single-dotted) ba and fatha on the ra, according to the well-established and correct reading, though some have corrupted it in writing.Asram is with a sad, though in Tahdhib and Khulasah it occurs as Akhram with a kha, which is an error. It will come up again at 1155.
