I was sitting with Abu Hurairah when a man asked him about something, though I did not catch what it was. Abu Hurairah said, "Allah is Most Great. Two have already asked about this, and this man is the third. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Some men will be carried away by their questioning until they say, Allah created creation, so who created Allah?'"
حدثنا عبد الرزاق قال سمعت هشام بن حسان يحدث
كنت عند أبي هريرة فسأله رجل عن شيء لم أدر ما هو قال فقال أبو هريرة الله أكبر سأل عنها اثنان وهذا الثالث سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن رجالا سترتفع بهم المسألة حتى يقولوا الله خلق الخلق فمن خلقه

Its chain of transmission is sahih. Muslim 1:49 narrated it through Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith, from his father, from Ayub, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Hurairah, with a similar meaning. It was also narrated through Ibn Ulaya, from Ayub, from Ibn Sirin.Bukhari 6:24, Muslim 1:48–49, and Abu Dawud 4721, 4722 narrated it with a similar meaning, through various routes, from Abu Hurairah. It will also come again with a similar meaning at 8192, 8358, 9015, 9562, and 1297, through different routes and with other wordings, from Abu Hurairah.As for the explanation of its meaning, that is a lengthy discussion.
