I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "A time will come upon you when a man will be given the choice between incapacity and wickedness. Whoever lives to see that time, let him choose incapacity over wickedness."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق عن سفيان عن داود عن شيخ
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول يأتي عليكم زمان يخير فيه الرجل بين العجز والفجور فمن أدرك ذلك الزمان فليختر العجز على الفجور
Its isnad is daif, due to the anonymity of the shaykh who narrated it from Abu Hurairah. Sufyan is Thawri. Dawud is Ibn Abu Hind. The hadith appears in Jami al-Masanid 7:531, taken from this place in the Musnad, and Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid 7:287, saying, "Ahmad and Abu Yaala narrated it from a shaykh, from Abu Hurairah, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy." It will come again at 9766, slightly abridged, from Waki, from Sufyan, with this same isnad.
