The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Fire complained to its Lord, saying, 'My Lord, parts of me are consuming other parts. Allow me to breathe.' So He permitted it two breaths each year. The most intense cold you experience is from the freezing chill of Hell, and the most intense heat you experience is from the heat of Hell."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It has already been mentioned in similar form at 7246, through the route of Zuhri, from Ibn Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, and we noted there that Bukhari and Muslim narrated it through the route of Zuhri, from Abu Salama, and this is that same route. See also 7602.
