Salama bin Azraq was sitting with Abdullah bin Umar in the marketplace when a funeral procession passed by, and people were weeping for the deceased. Abdullah bin Umar disapproved of this and rebuked them.Salama bin Azraq said to him, "Do not say that. I bear witness regarding Abu Hurairah that I heard him say, when a woman from the household of Marwan's daughters-in-law passed away and he attended her funeral, that Marwan ordered the wailing women to be driven away. Abu Hurairah said, 'Leave them alone, Abu Abdul-Malik. A funeral procession passed by the Prophet ﷺ with people weeping for the deceased, and I was with him, as was Umar bin Khattab. Umar rebuked the women who were weeping with the procession, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave them alone, Ibn Khattab. The soul is afflicted, the eye sheds tears, and the loss is fresh."'"Abdullah bin Umar asked, "Did you hear this yourself?"He replied, "Yes."Abdullah bin Umar said, "Then Allah and His Messenger know best."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا ابن جريج أخبرني هشام بن عروة عن وهب بن كيسان
أن سلمة بن الأزرق كان جالسا مع عبد الله بن عمر بالسوق فمر بجنازة يبكى عليها فعاب ذلك عبد الله بن عمر فانتهرهن فقال له سلمة بن الأزرق لا تقل ذلك فأشهد على أبي هريرة لسمعته يقول وتوفيت امرأة من كنائن مروان وشهدها وأمر مروان بالنساء اللاتي يبكين يطردن فقال أبو هريرة دعهن يا أبا عبد الملك فإنه مر على النبي ﷺ بجنازة يبكى عليها وأنا معه ومعه عمر بن الخطاب فانتهر عمر اللاتي يبكين مع الجنازة فقال رسول الله ﷺ دعهن يا ابن الخطاب فإن النفس مصابة وإن العين دامعة وإن العهد حديث قال أنت سمعته قال نعم قال فالله ورسوله أعلم
