Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ziyad bin Saad bin Abdul-Rahman Khurasani Makki is a colleague of Ibn Jurayj, and his reliability was already established at 1896 and 5893. We add here that Ibn Abu Hatim also gave his biography at 1/533/2–534. Malik said, "Ziyad bin Saad narrated to us. He was trustworthy, from the people of Khurasan, he settled in Makkah, and he came to us in Madinah. He had a dignified bearing and was righteous."The hadith is a repetition of 7341 and 7593, with similar wording. As for his statement "seven times," this is what is established in the three original manuscripts, and it agrees with Nasai's narration of this hadith from this route, as will come, and with Malik's narration from Abu Zinad, from Araj, in the Muwatta, page 34. It is established in the margin of manuscript M "repeatedly," marked with the notation "correct."7659m, he said, "He also informed me that Hilal bin Usama informed him, that he heard Abu Salama relate that from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ." Sahih.(7659m) Its chain of transmission is sahih as well, connected to the chain before it. The one who says, "He also informed me that Hilal bin Usama informed him..." is Ibn Jurayj. This means that just as Ziyad bin Saad narrated it to him as Thabit bin Iyad narrated it from Abu Hurairah, Hilal also narrated it to him from Abu Salama from Abu Hurairah.Hilal bin Usama is Hilal bin Ali bin Usama, also called Hilal bin Abu Maymuna and Hilal bin Abu Hilal. His biography and the establishment of his reliability were already given at 6622 and 7346, where we mentioned that he is sometimes attributed to his grandfather, being called Hilal bin Usama, and this is what is established here. Likewise, Bukhari said in Tarikh al-Kabir, 4/1/205, "Malik bin Anas said, Hilal bin Usama."A strange error has occurred in his name here, in the three original manuscripts of the Musnad, where it is written "Hazzal bin Usama"! This is certainly a corruption made by the copyists, for the name Hazzal is among the rare names that can be counted and identified precisely. I have not found anyone bearing this name, as far as I have seen, except a single man, Hazzal bin Yazid bin Dhubab, who is mentioned among the Companions. So I became certain, after lengthy research and investigation, that the mention of Hazzal in this place is an error.I then gained further certainty and conviction from Nasai's narration of it through this route and the one before it. Nasai narrated it at 1:22 via Hajjaj, who is Ibn Muhammad Awar, who said, "Ibn Jurayj said, Ziyad bin Saad informed me that Thabit, the freed slave of Abdul-Rahman bin Zayd, informed him that he heard Abu Hurairah say..." Then he narrated after it, with the same chain of transmission, via Hajjaj, who said, "Ibn Jurayj said, Ziyad bin Saad informed me that Hilal bin Usama informed him, that he heard Abu Salama relate from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ," similarly.From this, I established the name correctly within the body of the chain of transmission, while clarifying the error it had contained.
