The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I not tell you of the best houses of the Ansar?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Banu Abd al-Ashhal, the clan of Saad bin Muaz."They asked, "Then who, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "Then Banu al-Najjar."They asked, "Then who, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "Then Banu Harith bin Khazraj."They asked, "Then who, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "Then Banu Saidah."They asked, "Then who, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "And in all the houses of the Ansar there is good."
Its isnad is sahih. Muslim narrated it, 2:266, through Ibrahim bin Saad, from Salih bin Kaysan, from Zuhri, with this same isnad, similarly, though with an addition at the end beyond what is here.7617m - Mamar said, Thabit and Qatada informed me that they both heard Anas bin Malik mention this hadith, except that he said, "The sons of Najjar, then the sons of Abdul-Ashhal." Sahih.(7617m) Its isnad is sahih. It is from the hadith of Anas bin Malik, which Mamar mentioned following the hadith of Abu Hurairah. Thabit is Ibn Aslam Banani, and Qatada is Ibn Daama Sadusi. Its meaning has already been given following the musnad of Umar bin Khattab, 392, from Ishaq bin Isa, from Malik, from Yahya bin Saeed Ansari, from Anas. It will also come in the musnad of Anas, 13126, from Yazid bin Harun, from Yahya bin Saeed, with the same wording.Abu Naeem narrated it in al-Hilya, 6:354-355, through Abdul-Aziz bin Yahya, from Malik, from Yahya bin Saeed. Abu Naeem said, this is a rare report from the hadith of Malik, which Abdul-Aziz alone transmitted from him. But Abdul-Aziz bin Yahya Madani is extremely daif, many of the scholars branded him a liar, yet he was not in fact alone in transmitting this hadith from Malik, as Abu Naeem claimed. For Ishaq bin Isa Tabbaa, who is trustworthy, also narrated it from Malik, as you can see.Likewise, Bukhari narrated it, 9:388, and Tirmidhi, 4:371, both of them from Qutayba bin Saeed, from Layth bin Saad, from Yahya Ansari. Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan sahih hadith. Muslim also narrated it, 2:266, through the transmission of Layth, Abdul-Aziz Darawardi, and Abdul-Wahhab Thaqafi, all three of them from Yahya Ansari, from Anas, though he did not give its wording. Something similar will also come later, 12050, from Ibn Abu Adi, from Humayd, from Anas.Bukhari also narrated something similar in meaning, 88, through Qatada, and this will come in the Musnad, 16116, through Qatada as well. The Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari, 9:388, regarding the hadith of Anas, referring to his narration from Abu Usayd, "Both routes are sahih."Bukhari also narrated something similar in meaning, 3:272-273, in a lengthy hadith, from the hadith of Abu Humayd Saadi, and Muslim likewise narrated it, 2:205. The hadith of Abu Humayd will come later in the Musnad [5:424-425 h].
