The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever sleeps with grease from food on his hand without washing it and something harms him, let him blame no one but himself."
حدثنا أبو كامل حدثنا زهير حدثنا سهيل عن أبيه
قال رسول الله ﷺ من نام وفي يده غمر ولم يغسله فأصابه شيء فلا يلومن إلا نفسه
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in 3358 [2:432 of Awn al-Mabud] from Ahmad bin Yunus, from Zuhayr, from Suhayl. Ibn Majah narrated it in 3297 through the route of Abdul-Aziz bin Mukhtar, from Suhayl, with the same wording. Tirmidhi narrated it in 3:102, at greater length, through the narration of Maqburi from Abu Hurairah. He also narrated it in a shortened form, through the narration of Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, and noted in passing this narration of Suhayl's, saying, "It has also been narrated through the hadith of Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet."Ghamar, with the ghayn dotted and both the ghayn and mim carrying a fatha, refers to the grease and rank smell left from meat.
