The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Furat will recede to expose a mountain of gold, and people will fight over it. From every ten, nine will be killed."
حدثنا يعلى حدثنا محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ يحسر الفرات عن جبل من ذهب فيقتتل الناس عليه فيقتل من كل عشرة تسعة
Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Majah related it, 4046, through Muhammad bin Bishr, from Muhammad bin Amr, with this same isnad. His commentator quoted from Zawaid that he said, "Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy." But including it among the zawaid seems to me somewhat lax, for Muslim related it similarly, 2:364, through Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, with the wording, "The Hour will not come until the Euphrates uncovers a mountain of gold, and people will fight over it, and out of every hundred, ninety-nine will be killed, and every man among them will say, 'Perhaps I will be the one who survives.'"A similar version of this narration will come later through Suhayl, 8048, 8370. Then Bukhari also related, 13:70, and Muslim, 2:364, something of similar meaning, through Hafs bin Asim, from Abu Hurairah, and through Araj, from Abu Hurairah, with the wording, "The Euphrates is about to uncover a treasure," and in the second version, "a mountain of gold, so whoever is present should not take anything from it."So the hadith has its origin in the Sahihayn, and the wording found here is closer in meaning to Muslim's version through Suhayl. Something like this should not be counted among the additions of Ibn Majah. The hadith will also come later through the narration of Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, 8540/9356.Yahsuru, with the sin either vowelled with a damma or a kasra, follows the pattern of qatala and daraba.
