The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of deeds in the sight of Allah are faith with no doubt in it, military expedition with no misappropriation of spoils, and an accepted pilgrimage."Abu Hurairah said, "An accepted pilgrimage wipes away the sins of that year."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا هشام عن يحيى عن أبي جعفر أنه
قال رسول الله ﷺ أفضل الأعمال عند الله إيمان لا شك فيه وغزو لا غلول فيه وحج مبرور قال أبو هريرة حج مبرور يكفر خطايا تلك السنة
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Tayalisi related it (2518) from Hisham with this same chain, and it will also come again by this route at 8563, 9698, and 10767. Haythami did not mention it in Majma al-Zawaid, though none of the authors of the six books related it with this wording, because its meaning is established in the Sahihayn and elsewhere from the hadith of Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which deed is best?" He said, "Faith in Allah and His Messenger." He was asked, "Then what?" He said, "Jihad in the path of Allah." He was asked, "Then what?" He said, "An accepted Hajj." See Bukhari 1:73 and Muslim 1:36. It will also come again in the Musnad at 7580, 7629, and 7850.Munziri mentioned the hadith of the Sahihayn in Targhib and Tarhib 2:105, 172, and then mentioned this narration found here in both places, attributing it in the first to Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, and in the second to Ibn Khuzayma in his Sahih, except that in Ibn Khuzayma's narration he did not mention Abu Hurairah's statement at the end of the hadith about the accepted Hajj. Ibn Athir said, it is the one unmixed with any sin. And it was said, it is the one that is accepted, matched with reward, meaning the recompense for it.
