The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of continuous fasting."They said, "But you practice continuous fasting, Messenger of Allah."He replied, "I am not like you in that. I spend my time with my Lord feeding me and giving me drink. So take on only those deeds which you have the capacity to perform."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا محمد عن موسى بن يسار عن أبي هريرة وعن أبي الزناد عن الأعرج
قال رسول الله ﷺ إياكم والوصال قالوا فإنك تواصل يا رسول الله قال إني لست في ذلك مثلكم إني أظل يطعمني ربي ويسقيني فاكلفوا من الأعمال ما لكم به طاقة
Both of its chains of transmission are sahih. Ibn Ishaq reported it from Musa bin Yasar from Abu Hurairah, and also from Abu Zinad from Araj from Abu Hurairah. The hadith has already appeared with similar wording at 7162, through the narration of Abu Zura from Abu Hurairah. Part of it has also already appeared in abridged form, through the narration of Abu Zinad from Araj from Abu Hurairah at 7228 and 7326, and through the narration of Amash from Abu Salih from Abu Hurairah at 7431.
