Its isnad is sahih. Muslim related it (1:83) through Sufyan, from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, with the wording, "When one of you cleans himself with stones, let him use an odd number." Something similar to this has already passed at 7340, from Sufyan. Its meaning has also already passed at 7220, through Zuhri, from Abu Idris Khawlani, from Abu Hurairah. See also 7403.
