The Prophet ﷺ said, "Until she washes it once or twice."
حدثنا معاوية بن عمرو حدثنا زائدة عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح
عن النبي ﷺ قال حتى يغسلها مرة أو مرتين

Its isnad is sahih, despite being abridged like the one before it. Zaida, who is Ibn Qudama, did not live to narrate directly from Abu Salih. His narration is rather from Amash from Abu Salih. Imam Ahmad also did not present this hadith with the full chain in the manner of a complete narration. He only intended to point out the difference between it and the two narrations before it, namely that Zaida narrated it from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, with the wording "pouring water once or twice." For that reason we added, at the point of omission, just as we did in the previous one.I have traced the paths of this hadith, as far as I was able, through the references and collections available to me, but I did not find any narration from Zaida from Amash at all. Nor did I find any narration containing the wording "once or twice" except in a single narration. Tayalisi related it in his Musnad (2418), Shuba told us, saying, Amash informed me, from Zakwan, who is Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "When any of you wakes from his sleep, he should not dip his hand into the vessel until he has poured water over it once or twice, for he does not know where his hand spent the night." The word "pouring" appears in Tayalisi as "pouring" with a different letter, which is clearly a printing error.Abu Dawud (104) related it, and Bayhaqi (1:45) followed him, via the route of Isa bin Yunus, from Amash, from Abu Salih alone, from Abu Hurairah, and he said, "twice or three times."For completeness, we mention here the sources of the paths of this hadith that we found after tracing and research, since it has been narrated from Abu Hurairah through more than one route. We leave aside those we have already pointed to in the discussion of this isnad and the two isnads before it. Ahmad related it, as will come (7508, 7590, 7660, 7802, 8167, 8570, 8952, 9128, 9227, 9869, 9997, 10093, 10503, 10597). Shafii related it in al-Umm (1:10-11), through two routes [Musnad Shafii arranged by Shaykh Abid Sindi, 1:29-30]. Darimi related it (1:196), and Bukhari (1:229-231), and Muslim (1:91-92), and Tirmidhi (1:36-37) [number 24 with our commentary], and Nasai (1:4, 37, 75), and Ibn Majah (number 393), and Ibn Jarud in al-Muntaqa (page 15), and Abu Awana in his Musnad (1:263-265), and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (2:351-354) from the manuscript of al-Ihsan, and Bayhaqi (1:45-48), and Ibn Hazm in al-Muhalla (1:207-208), and Daraqutni (pages 18, 19). The Hafiz pointed out in Fath al-Bari (1:230-231) that it was also related by Ibn Khuzayma and Ibn Manda.
