The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which women are the best?"He replied, "The one who pleases him when he looks at her, obeys him when he commands her, and does not oppose him regarding herself or his wealth in ways he dislikes."
حدثنا يحيى عن ابن عجلان عن سعيد
سئل رسول الله ﷺ أي النساء خير قال الذي تسره إذا نظر وتطيعه إذا أمر ولا تخالفه فيما يكره في نفسها وماله
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Nasai reported it (2:72) through the route of Layth bin Saad, from Ibn Ajlan, with the same chain. Ibn Majah reported (1857) something similar in meaning from the hadith of Abu Umama, and his commentator, quoting from the Zawaid of Busiri, pointed to this hadith of Abu Hurairah. Abu Dawud reported something similar in meaning in a long hadith from Ibn Abbas (1664) [Awn al-Mabud 2:50], and we noted in the footnotes of Talkhis Munziri (1598), quoting from the tafsir of Ibn Kathir, that Hakim reported it, meaning the hadith of Ibn Abbas, and graded it sahih, and Ibn Abu Hatim and Ibn Mardawayh also reported it.As for his statement "الذي تسره" (which pleases him), the use of the masculine demonstrative pronoun is confirmed in all three original manuscripts, and it is correct. Its explanation is that it is a report about the husband whose wife possesses these desirable qualities, while in Nasai it appears as "التي" (the feminine form).
