The Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves by my name, but do not take my kunya as your own."
قال قرئ على سفيان سمعت أيوب عن محمد
عن النبي ﷺ تسموا باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari 6:408 narrated it from Ibn Madini, and Muslim 2:168 from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba and others, and Abu Dawud 4965 [4:446 of Awn al-Mabud] from Musaddad and Abu Bakr, and Ibn Majah 3735 from Abu Bakr as well, all of them from Sufyan bin Uyayna, with this isnad. It will come again right after this, through the narration of Abdul-Wahhab Thaqafi from Ayub. Darimi 2:293–294 narrated it by way of Hisham from Muhammad bin Sirin. Bukhari also narrated it, 1:180, along with other hadiths, through the narration of Abu Salih from Abu Hurairah. This hadith has also been established as sahih from the hadith of Anas, and it will come again repeatedly, including at 12156 and 12993, and from the hadith of Jabir, including at 14232 and 15191.
