A swarm of golden locusts was sent down upon Ayub, and he began gathering them into his garment. He was asked, "Ayub, has what We have given you not been enough for you?"He replied, "My Lord, who can ever do without Your bounty?"
حدثنا سفيان عن أبي الزناد عن الأعرج
أرسل على أيوب رجل من جراد من ذهب فجعل يقبضها في ثوبه فقيل يا أيوب ألم يكفك ما أعطيناك قال أي رب ومن يستغني عن فضلك
Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Kathir mentioned it in Tarikh 1:224 citing this very passage, and said, "This is mawquf. It has been narrated from Abu Hurairah through another route as marfu." He then mentioned it from the narration of Ahmad that will come at 8144, from the Sahifah of Hammam bin Munabbih, and then mentioned that Bukhari narrated it through this same route. Ibn Kathir had also mentioned it earlier, at 1:223, from the narration of Ahmad that will also come at 8025. Both narrations are marfu.Although this narration outwardly appears mawquf, it is marfu in ruling, since it is a report about the unseen, which Abu Hurairah could not have known except from the infallible one who conveys from Allah, the Messenger of Allah.Al-Rijl, with a kasrah on the ra and a sukun on the jim, means a great swarm of locusts.
