Its isnad is sahih. Arak, with the ain vowelled as kasra and the two plain letter rs unshadowed, is Ibn Malik Ghifari, of Banu Kinana, a trustworthy successor among the finest of the successors. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 88/1/4, and Ibn Abu Hatim in 38/2/3, and Ibn Saad in 5:187–188, where he said, he was chaste and firm in character, and he held the post of chief of police in Madinah. In al-Tahdhib, it is reported from Abdul-Aziz bin Umar bin Abdul-Aziz, "My father would not rank anyone equal to Arak bin Malik." And from Mundhir bin Abdullah, "Arak bin Malik was among the most severe of the companions of Umar bin Abdul-Aziz against the family of Marwan, in wresting back from their hands what they had seized of the spoils and the wrongfully taken property."This hadith was narrated by the group, as noted in al-Muntaqa 1985, and al-Jami al-Saghir 7614.
