The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade preparing nabidh in gourds and in vessels coated with pitch. Abu Hurairah would add, "And avoid the green earthenware jars as well."
حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري عن أبي سلمة أو سعيد سمعت
نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن الدباء والمزفت أن ينتبذ فيه ويقول أبو هريرة واجتنبوا الحناتم
Its isnad is sahih. Muslim also related it, 2:126, through the route of Sufyan, with this same isnad, but he related it as a marfu narration from the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Do not steep dates or raisins in gourd vessels, nor in tar-coated vessels." Then he followed it with, "Then Abu Hurairah says, 'And avoid the hantam vessels.'" Al-hanatim is the plural of hantam, which is the earthenware jar.
