Its isnad is sahih. Hanzala Aslami is Hanzala bin Ali bin Asqa Sulami Madani, a trustworthy tabii. Nasai and others rated him trustworthy, and Bukhari wrote a biographical entry on him in al-Kabir 1/35/2-36, as did Ibn Abu Hatim in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 1/239/2-240, and Ibn Saad in al-Tabaqat 5:186.Muslim narrated the hadith in 1:356-357 through Sufyan bin Uyayna with this same isnad. He then also narrated it through Layth, and through Yunus, both of them from Zuhri, in similar fashion. It will come again through other routes, both at length and in shortened form, at 7667, 7890, 10671, 10987. Ibn Kathir quoted it in his tafsir 3:15 from this very place in the Musnad.
